Happy 25th Birthday Lakeside Greens!

When Lakeside Greens Inc. was given approval to develop the land into a gold course back in 1992, part of the deal was for the development to pay to connect Chestermere to the City of Calgary’s water supply.
“That’s how the village of Chestermere got city water, the golf course paid for it,” said Managing Partner Wayne McBean.
McBean has been involved with the club since the beginning and has been managing it for the last 19 years.

Are changes coming?

After 30 years Chestermere residents, and particularly those who live on Lakeside Greens Golf Course have been sad, dismayed, and even angry to hear that the golf course may be replaced with a housing development.  Read more in these recent October 2020 articles from The Calgary Herald Oct 13 p A7 and The Calgary Sun Oct 13th.

This is the media statement put out by the owners Oct 6th in The Chesterrnere Anchor.

Lakeside Golf Club Statement

Glenn Carr Wayne McBean Managing Partners, Lakeside Golf Club

Media Statement – Chestermere Anchor We’ve had 27 great years running the golf club and are proud of our record as Chestermere’s largest employer, second only to the Municipality. Many of our members’ children worked here for their first summer jobs.

Golfing around the world was experiencing a decline long before the global pandemic paralyzed our economy. Our club is one of many that has struggled to remain open. We have been operating at a loss for the past several years and the club is in need of millions of dollars of capital infrastructure investment.

When the opportunity to partner with Slokker Homes came along, we had to consider it seriously. It is a difficult but necessary decision. We can confirm we have signed a partnership agreement with Slokker Homes to redevelop the property, contingent on Council’s approval of a future proposed community. The golf club will remain open for at least the next two seasons.
